Lake County Airport Sees Big Improvements Lake County, home to the highest airport in North America, has undergone $4 million of improvements in the past year. In hopes of attracting more commercial and corporate traffic, improvements have been made to hanger space, round the clock fueling and a GPS to make landings safer. This is just another step in bringing back a sleeper of a town from near ruin. The bottom dropped out when the Climax mine closed in the mid-‘80’s. As the price of Molybdenum climbs back with that of other commodities like steel and copper the future of Climax looks promising. A few years ago much work and hundreds of millions were spent to make the mine ready to reopen. For two years housing in Leadville was virtually impossible to find and real estate prices climbed. When the current recession hit things were put on hold. As Molybdenum approaches $30/lb again look for the mine to crank up and real estate demand to do the same. Things are still at the bottom so this area is a great investment for the future if you are looking for growth in your real estate portfolio. Leadville is often overlooked as a second home location. It has all you could want in a mountain getaway with the usual year round outdoor recreation and lots of nature and peace and quiet. It is also a great community with friendly people, quaint shops and restaurants and fun events throughout the year. You have Turquoise Lake, Twin Lakes and Ski Cooper. If you need the big time Leadville is only thirty to forty minutes to Frisco, Copper Mountain, Vail and Beaver Creek. Check it out before you purchase a mountain home, you may be surprised at what is available at down to earth prices. For more on Leadville and Lake County go to; www.VisitLeadvilleColorado.com |
